Game On!

My buddy ol pal, Christine, introduced me to this new world of game rooms which were trendy years ago in Korea, but are still a good place to hang out with friends and enjoy your fave board or card games on any given day. We walked into this place one Sunday afternoon, and I was amused and fascinated by how serious this game place looked. Furnished like a restaurant, complete with a full menu of board games to choose from. And in true restaurant style, a 'waitress' is at your service, ready to take your order. With your best game face on, you choose anything from Scrabble to Monopoly (and many other games I've never heard of) and the waitress makes sure to bring your order to you. Pretty cool. 

We played Ticket to Ride which forced me to learn a thing or two about American geography- yes! Who said you can't play and learn simultaneously?!

I have never been a game maniac, but I'll definitely be visiting this spot more often. Just because it feels so professional. And stuff.

Chopidy Chop

Since the last post on how I tame this mane, a lot of Youtubing, contemplating, wondering and researching has been happening; about hair and ways to look after it without the help and financial robbery of a hairdresser.

Natural hair. This became my main focus. This means exactly what the term says- hair that is in it's natural state, and for a strange reason, has always been dubbed as too nappy, too untidy, too bushy, too Black, too whatever. Via Youtube I started seeing how beautiful our hair actually is and I became really curious about how I'd look with a full head of natural hair. 

My last chemical treatment aka perm aka relaxer was last August or so, but that didn't come out as it should have (thank God). So one fine Saturday evening (after my January braids were taken out), I sat up with a pair of scissors, wanting to chop off a small bit of relaxed hair to see what an entire natural strand would look like. 

My, oh my, did it look cool! So there the scissors went, dancing and having a gooood time on my head. I think I quite enjoyed it too. The CURLS! I had no idea that it was these awesome patterns that I'd been taming for all these years (about 10 years).

The hair is wet and shy so it appears shorter than its true length. I'm also shy and pretending to be shocked.

Long hair story short- some love it, some don't but I'm so glad I'm giving this a shot. It's a lot of hard work but I'm absolutely loving the alien hair on my head. It's as exciting and interesting for me as it is for my Korean students and co teachers. 

And before we all get carried away, let's remember the wise words of India Arie:

I am not my hair. 

Never forget.
